Born in Oklahoma and raised in South Charleston, West Virginia, Peggy started oil painting in the late 1960's while her husband, Biff (Leon A.) was in medical school.

Peggy continued to paint while raising her three children, and they remain her top priority.  In 2006, she and her husband moved to Greenville, SC to be near their family. She is now the proud grandmother of seven grandchildren, and claims that not one moment of time spent with them is regrettable, but if it weren't for these little darlings, she would do a lot more painting.

While living in San Francisco in the early 1970’s, she studied drawing and oil painting at the San Francisco Museum of Contemporary Art. Peggy and her family moved to Charlotte in 1974 where she studied oil painting with Mary Todd Shaw, started watercolor classes in the 80's with Louise Schlachter, and most recently studied under Nancy Smith Couick.  She has also studied with John Lomax, Karlyn Holman, Terry Chandler and AnneAbgott.

In May 2004, ‘05, and ‘06, Peggy traveled to Italy with Nancy Couick and Nancy Carver, watercolor artist and journal instructor, respectively. They traveled extensively, visiting Tuscany, Cortona, Florence, Bagno Vignoni, Siena, San Gimignano, Venice, Rome, Umbria, and many small villages along the Amalfi Coast. In 2007, Peggy returned to Italy to Maratea, on the Amalfi coast.  In 2008, she traveled to Eastern Europe and visited Hungary, Croatia, Serbia, Bulgaria, and Romania. In May of 2009 she traveled to Cambodia, Thailand and Laos,  and is currently working on a new series of paintings from this exciting trip.

Peggy had her first solo exhibit at Zebra restaurant in Charlotte in 2005, which was a  great success.  An award-winning photographer, she works from photographs that she has taken from all over the world, and is happy to take commissions from your photographs as well.  Recently, she was selected to do a cover for a book by
Blair Roberts.  The book also includes several of Peggy's watercolors and may be viewed here.

Peggy’s gallery is open by appointment.  She would love for you to come by for a visit any time!
